Which P&C Carrier Should I Start With?

I'm currently thinking about joining a national P&C carrier as an agent owner. I can't seem to get a clear idea about which company to pursue (SF, Allstate, Farmers, etc.). Does anyone have any ideas on which is a better deal to get started ? I don't think I can start as an independent, as I don't have direct experience doing this. I have a 20+ year background in insurance, but in operations, not in sales.

I don't think there is a clear answer to this one. I wouldn't do any of the ones you named. Maybe American Family, Nationwide, Shelter or one of the lesser knows.

What comes to mind when someone says Agent Owner is that you have an ownership interest in the BOB...But I don't believe that is the case with Farmers or SF...and Allstate only lets you sell to them or an approved canidate which decreases the pool of buyers and the value of the book.

Thanks for the information. After I posted my question, I spoke to Allstate in detail about becoming an agent owner for them. Too much risk for too little return. I've also read other posts on Allstate, sounds like you are very much an employee with all the expenses of an independent business owner.

I am going to look into Nationwide.

Thanks again.
