Who Has LOW Rates for Seniors

The best way to find low car insurance rates is to shop with all the leading auto insurance companies in Louisiana. Here are the largest, in no particular order:

American National Property & Casualty (ANPAC) Louisiana Insurance Company

Louisiana Farm Bureau Casualty Insurance Company

State Farm

Progressive

GEICO

Allstate

Liberty Mutual Fire Insurance Company

Shelter Mutual Insurance Company

Automobile Club Inter-insurance Exchange (AAA)

General Insurance Company of America (Safeco)

Safeway Insurance Company of Louisiana

There are too many moving parts for any single carrier to be the obvious choice. Even if there was, that could change every month.

That's why using an agent allows them to shop for you

No, agents can't shop the market for their customers. At best, agents shop for the best rates among the companies they represent.

If low rates are your goal, check the rates of companies selling direct, selling through captive agents, and independent agents representing different companies.

You don't want to leave independent agents out of the equation, but it annoys me when some indy agents say, "Hey, I'm an independent agent working with 20 companies, let me shop the market for you."

My previous post mentioned some of the largest insurance companies insuring cars in LA. How many of them do you represent?

I don't equate "large" with "best," but if you are trying to find low rates, you don't want to exclude GEICO, Progressive Direct, State Farm, Allstate, etc., which are not available through independent agents.

We represent 6 of the ones you had listed. My point wasn't denying shopping direct wouldn't save you the most money. My point was most people aren't going to call that many places to try and find the lowest rate. Of the list you posted, we have been able to get some of the lowest rates in Louisiana even beating some of the discount direct companies that bypass agents. The rates are so high here that competition in the market works.

Why would it annoy you when an agent says they work with 20 companies to try and find you the lowest rate? That's what agents do, as well as service the customer. Those same people may use Expedia.com to seek low travel rates and that shouldn't make a travel agent have a bad name if someone would like to pay for the services provided. We state our fees, nothing is a surprise to our clients.

Also check through AARP. I know they can offer seniors lower rates through Hartford than you can get from the same company through other channels. I think they work with other carriers in some areas too.

I'm not a P&C agent but the feedback I get from people is that if you buy the AARP branded policy from Hartford you pay MORE not less than going direct with Hartford.

Is that not true?

What's funny is that if you provide a quote from The Hartford to a client, the fine print at the bottom of the quote says you can get this for 5% less if you go direct with the Hartford vs going with an agent. Ridiculous

For some reason when talking to client they think you have all answers for insurance, which I don't but, I would like to point them in the right direction.
