I'm putting together some information for consumers on the ins and outs of purchasing health insurance. I know there are great bunch of brokers here. Can you guys give me your most valued tip on health insurance and over the course of your years in the business let consumers know what works and what doesn't.

Your Conn. Website looks pretty basic and has a low PR. How come you are ranking so well? It it an old URL? Thanks

As a consumer, as well, I like Alston's website because it has good information that is easy to locate if I were shopping for health insurance. And, it looks very credible.

As a marketer, I like his website because it is clean, well-written and easy on the eyes as far as color schemes and information placement.

In regards to looking pretty basic:
Search engines don't care about "pretty." Search engines can only read text. For the most part, graphics and colors are either neutural or negative in regards to SEO.

I think that I understand how to structure a website and web page and know where the keywords should go. My sites are written in XHTML using external CSS and my code all validates. This means that my pages load fast and render well on cell phones and other devices. Search engines love clean code, fast loading pages, a good heirarchical structure and XHTML. None of these are impacted by how pretty a site looks.

So "looking basic" is not an issue.

In regards to my low PR sites generating good traffic:

The short answer is: "darned if I know."

The longer answer is: I theorize that I did a very good job with the on page stuff and that is making up for the very bad job I did with the back links.

I think that my backlink strategy very flawed for a long time. I'm fixing that now and should see my PR improve over the next 6 months or so.

My Google traffic doesn't seem to have been affected by the drop in PR although I used to rank much better on MSN and Yahoo!

My 1800insuranceCT.com site was created in April 2004. By the way, you can do a whois search to see how old a site is. There are tons of sites that allow you to do free whois searches.
