Preventive Health Services for Women at no Additional Charge
On August 1, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued new guidelines which amend the list of preventive services that must be provided without cost sharing under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The guidelines specifically address preventive health services that must be offered to women, such as "well-woman" visits, breastfeeding support, domestic violence screening, human papillomavirus (HPV) testing, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) screening and counseling, and contraception and contraception counseling – without cost-sharing.
All non-grandfathered health plans (IFP, small, mid/large, and self-funded/ASO plans) are required to include these services without cost sharing for plan years beginning on or after August 1, 2012.
