California has 19 regions. Anthem is withdrawing from 16 of those 19. Those regions spared? The "Northern" counties, were I am, "Santa Clara" County, and, the "Central Valley".

On exchange, which means off exchange too.
Same thing happened here, Anthem pulled out in addition to some other insurers.

But at least Peter Lee is thrilled at only an average 12% rate increase. What a tool!

Weighted average of +12.5%. Once the smoke and dust clears, it will be worse.
Just spot checking reveals, for a Cat plan for a 20+ yr old, Bronze 60. Anthem is currently -30% less compared to Blue Shield for the same plan.
So, Anthem disappears, 20+ year old enrolls in same Bronze 60 w/Blue Shield (+30%+12.5%).
That will be sticker shock!

So the good news? For 2018 Anthem EPO will continue in (region 1)northern counties. The bad news? Premium rates are increasing 20-54%.
Within Covered Ca, Anthem EPO has 77% of the enrollment in region 1.
Also, Blue Shield of Ca will continue for 2018 In region 1. Premium increases of 10-24%.

Looks like it will be Blue Shield of California and they will still offer their PPO.
