50 Years!!!!!

:twitchy:)
I still have a crate full of maps and map books of every city and town within a 200 mile radius of me. I suppose I keep those for the same reason I keep my rate books. (Maybe someday I can stop being a hoarder!:twitchy:)
Yeah...when your toes point to the sky..

@rousemark being from the Chattanooga area I am surprised you didn't mention Monumental and Volunteer State Life.
Never did run into Monumental in those days. My granddad had a plan with Volunteer State but I did not know they were a debit company. I thought they were just in the ordinary business.

And, I forgot United Family Life which worked out of the funeral homes.

If you are like me you wonder how you ever found an address without Google Maps. When I accepted a Sales Manager position in Jackson, MS in 1988 they gave me a map of the city and told me to go out and collect the open debits that I had under me. I had never been there but found my way around somehow.
We had directions...TA for turn around....etc...

One company that disappeared was Life of Georgia.
I think they were bought by someone.
Another was Mutual Savings, there home office was here
In Decatur Alabama
Both debit companies.

To illustrated how familiar you became to your debit customers.
I collected in the Afro-American communities.
A few times a year a sales manager would ride .with you.

They would go over your collections to be sure you weren't skimming
money from the company.
Trying to up your sells.
We walked up to a house I collected from each week.
Something like $4.75 each week.

A small black child was sitting on the steps as we walked up.
He turned and shouted through the screen door, Mama !!
Mr. Shooter is here and he has a white man with him.
Yes I am a Caucasian as well.
But not to that little one.

Different times.
By the way congrats rousemark, that is something to be
proud of.
Shooter

Seems like I remember Life of Georgia being bought by Liberty National. I wrote an older black lady from Century. FL who was retired from Mutual Savings. She gave me leads until she passed.

listening to old Johnny Dollar episodes. Don't know how he survived without a cell phone!
I vaguely remember some radio dramas that still existed when I was a boy, but I was born in the middle of the first TV generation. So I had to look up Johnny Dollar. Seems like an updated version of it would be a fun show for Amazon or Netflix to put out. (On a side note I used to have a client by that name. Do you think he bought a policy just so he could keep an eye on me?)

I remember Life of Georgia being bought by Jackson National. A friend of mine was servicing all of southeastern Virginia after they shut down the debits. Then JNL quit selling life policies altogether, which ended a pretty sweet gig for him. Here's a blog post from David Duford about them: Life Of Georgia Review [Get Questions Answered Here]
