It doesn't.

Velocity (how fast it's rising), diagnosis and treatment all factor in.

If he doesn't have a reason, he's screwed. If he has a diagnosis, treatment plan, etc. then he's writable.

I love Pru for these cases but several carriers can be competitive.

Did the other company do labs and get a high psa or was something in his APS?
Was he aware and his Doc tracking it?

Ps... Do a Prostate and or Cancer questionnaire with him. Send put the info into a Quick Quote email and send it out. You may get a range from the underwriters. Really need the psa numbers and history.

I had someone like this. Was declined, then did what I mention below, and was approved.

PSA could mean prostate cancer in the future, or not.

He needs to get it down and then test it again to show a lower number.

No alcohol, no sex, etc. for several weeks to a month to get the PSA number down.
Find out what other things he can do to bring the number down.
Then test it again and it should be lower if prostate cancer is not the issue.

Unfortunately, PSA test is not perfect. It has many high number of unexplained positive numbers. I have a client who has high PSA for years, they tried 4 times to do a biopsy, but found nothing. Other than GI, I have not found a way.
