A Follow Up on the Whale

I used to give it right back to clams like that in my younger days. Now? It's like a broken record. You've seen one of those chumps, you've seen 'em all. "Whatevs" as the kids say. Good on you for keeping your cool.

I know. But that was a new one on me. It really started earlier. We had a small disagreement about bank draft. he has a checking and savings account but was opposed to using it. He made a big deal out of not having a home computer or smart phone and wanted to be billed. This guy is a federal mine inspector. That's why he's gone all the time. I told him that bank draft was the rule. He asked if it was my rule or the company rule. I told him it was both. Most companies didn't do monthly billing but I didn't even on the ones that did allow it.

I'm sure the second blowup was because of that.

The worst part was the fact that you went out of your way to kind of do the guy a favor and see him on Saturday. You even tried to solidify the deal before you went to justify going in the first place. And it still turned to ****.

That's the kind of stuff that really pisses me off.

while selling for Combined Insurance back in the 70's they taught us when things took a turn for the bad to just say

"Thanks just the same" and get up and walk away.

In theory it sounds real good. In reality its a hard thing to do

Been with insurance for 35 years but am new to fe. My very first sale with fe the lady thanked and thanked me. Was overjoyed she was able to get coverage. When I closed the door and was leaving I heard her tell her husband "I am so happy I was able to get covered".

When the draft day came it was nsf. Her phone was disconnected. I am sure she must have lost my card because she never called. Ha!

I am convinced the only people who can make it are literally machines that only think about the next app. Almost like a crack head. You know? Like, they are so hungry for the next sale they will do anything for it and completely forget about what happened 20 minutes ago even if they just had 4 nsfs and/or were porched 4 times. I have never met a successful agent who doesn't have some type of addiction for the next sale. An Fe star once told me that he acts like these people have his kids shoes and his meal; he is literally chasing them down because they owe him his kids shoes!!! The mindset to succesd is literally parallel to Liam Nelson in taken. IMHO it's more of an instinct like a dog to go after a bone than sales skills. Some have it. Some don't.

Do you think it was a trust issue?

Also, I think I have read on here that the harder a prospect is to get a hold of and set an appointment with, the less likely it is to stay on the books? Do you think that's true?

No, I don't think that was the problem. Somebody gets sold on every call. This time I was the one that got sold. I didn't handle it very well about the mailing the app to me. But that was a new one on me. After around 6000 appointments over the years I thought I had heard and seen everything. I hadn't. That was a first.

As for it being harder to keep one on the books based on how hard they were to contact? I see no difference in that. This guy wasn't hard to set an appointment with once I agreed to Sat.

What I should have done in hindsight is more qualifying on the phone. I do none normally. This time I should made an exception before wasting 2 and a half hours on a Sat.
