A Great P and C Prospecting Idea

.

Here is GA we all are required to have car insurance. I'm not sure how he only needs the vin number, but maybe another P and C agent in Ga could tell us how that works.

But if you dont know how to do it that way, just ask them for their info.

I'm a P&C Agent in Georgia and I don't know how he can provide a quote by only using the VIN???

The most likely scenario is that he's giving more of a broad estimate rather than an actual quote. The VIN would provide year, make, model, safety features and all other pertinent vehicle data. When he greets the driver and offers the free wash, he can make note of their gender, whether he/she is wearing a wedding ring and get a ballpark idea of their age. So he gives a quote for a married, 35 year old woman who drives a 2010 Ford Fusion - assuming good credit and no violations or claims to provide the most attractive rate(s)! It only makes sense to present the best case scenario, so I can't fault him for that.

I wonder how accurate his quotes really are and his overall success rate? He must be having some success if he is continuing to do it. It's an uncommon, outside-of-the-box idea and, for that alone, I'm impressed! =)

Just like you said- ask for their info! With a name, address and date of birth, the state database will return all registered vehicles, all drivers in the household (including their DOB and license numbers). Then my system will use the license info to pull an MVR and CLUE report.

I think I need to spend some time at the car wash this weekend!:)

Mark- Did you notice what kind of device he was using to process the quote? Laptop, tablet, smart phone, abacus? Did he give you a printed quote?

After reading and responding to this posting, I can't get that song out of my head- "Workin' at the car wash...."~! =)

He did give me a print out, that I trashed while I was there. I didn't really pay it much attention, because I'm not changing car insurance companies. I did just have a wreck in Dec, and my current company forgave it since I've been with them for so long.

I will try and catch him again and see if he will let me record him or ask him more questions.

It didnt take him 5 mins to produce the quote. I was inside the car, while it was being washed, so I have no idea what he was doing while I was inside the wash.

I"m going to email the car wash people and see what kind of a discount I can get if I buy 100 washes at a time. I know my church did it one time and paid like 1 dollar a wash, for the $5 wash.

The carwash has a monthly plan that you can pay like 30 a month for and get one $15 wash a day.

I'm a mini hoarder and Can't believe I didnt keep that piece of paper.

Sounds like a great idea, but where is the legal line in terms of rebating? What amount of value/services can we give our prospects before it's considered rebating?

I thought rebating was if you paid them to buy the insurance.

He is giving them something if they buy it or not.

Just allow him to do a quote.

I dont think that is rebating.

May be (MAY BE...) he is not even running the quotes. He may just have a few formats, and like someone pointed out - he would guess the age/credit from the gender/model of the car - and then print out "some numbers" that could be close to real.

I used to do P&C couple of years ago, and wouldn't get the quote until all the info about the drivers has been put in. So I dont see how it would be possible to do in 3 minutes, and especially when people are lining up.

But thats what all these big stores do - right. They announe "UPTO 90%" off. I like his idea of getting people talk.

He could very well be doing a rate with a package policy as well. Kemper will allow you to do a rate in approx. 5 mins if you know the system well enough, and as part of a package you have excellent rates. Even lower than what people might have as a monoline auto. The rates are competitive here but the credit and target market requirements make it harder to get those rates...

In NC, you can do something like a referral or something similar for clients to get people in the door. HOWEVER, it has to be when the app is submitted only, and not if the quote is accepted by underwriting or they buy the policy. That's what makes it fair. There are limits by the state for what to do with referrals and things like this but 5 dollars is probably not going to hurt anything, in NC I can do 25 dollar gift cards I believe.

Auto insurance is easy. He is likely estimating the age/record of the driver, OR, he is using a carrier to run the VIN through and a CLUE or registration report is getting pulled? Some carriers you can just put a VIN in the quote screen and it starts to pre-generate any info available on the internets.

I heard mark was washing cars in front of his office, IN his speedo. with a sign FREE CAR WASH, WITH FREE LIFE INS QUOTE.
