AARP slowly losing its grip on Florida

I'm not sure it'll be as bad as you think. It might be. But I'm not worried about it.

I’m speaking mostly about Humana . Humana had a disastrous outlook of earnings for 2024 of $16 and est’s were $32. They by far had the highest claims ratio of any carrier . They said on earnings call “ we must protect our margins vs enrollment growth “ . That’s key word for cutting medical and benefits big . Why do I key this conversation on Humana mostly , Humana has been agents nationwide favorite carrier the last 3-4 yrs I’d say . It means any high vol agent has a big book of Humana and is vulnerable . To be fair other carriers mentioned higher claims in their earnings report . But they didn’t have near the lose ratio of Humana. We’ll see the first looks in 4 months . I’m preparing myself to having to move a lot of plans . I hope I’m wrong . I got a lot of people on the same plan for 3 yrs now . At the 3 yr market on mapd people get antsy thinking there might be something better out there .

Is Humana still giving you marketing dollars? Seems like every new member for Humana at this point puts them further in the red .

It's interesting that people on here keep signing Doom and gloom for Humana, when in Florida their plans stayed pretty stable for 2024, or in some cases got even better

Yes a very few states Humana stayed the same or even increased . But the vast majority of states Humana cut deep .In many states Humana cut out otc 100% on many plans . They lowered dental on some plans . They raised specialist copays . They eliminated transportation . I believe nationwide they eliminated the emergency response system on all dsnp’s and csnp’s . Maybe in 2025 they cut deep in the states they didn’t and leave the states they already cut alone . All the plans for 2025 are going to cms shortly for approval. But as we well know many CO’s change there plans even as late as sept . I learned my lessons on that . On benefits wait till the first week of sept to form your opinion on the plan

IMHO Fl is where Humana is getting hurt the most since they have always been the biggest MA player there and because Fl is the second most chock full of seniors state behind Ca. i believe

In Florida i hear their 164.90 Give Back PPO plan in 2025 is going to be renamed the Give it Back PPO. lol

Your probably correct . Humana’s by far been the leader this yr in giveback . I’ve written a lot .I bet they cut that big next yr

Unlike most benefits that are reduced from year to year that people don't notice right away they will notice a reduction in give back in january 2025 ! I kinda hope all the plans do away with give back for 2025
 
UHC med Supp will still be my go to company, even after the 9% increase. FL blue had their 9.1% rate in Jan and Humana has a 6% increase in April.
The cheaper companies won’t compete very long and like most of them do, they’ll pull out of FL.

In orlando, starting in June, UHC will be $1 more than FL Blue. Uhc has 55% of the market in FL and FL Blue has 20%. Two companies have 75% of the market and that’s not changing anytime soon
You need to talk to Packerland about WPS/Epic. They had a rate increase too but are still well under $200 monthly for a Plan G. Me and my wife have it and have had no issues. Have never received a call from anyone that I have sold that was unhappy.
 
AARP/UHC just released 13.5% increase in Maryland for June 1. This was surely impacted by the state's new "birthday rule" allowing guaranteed issue to shop plans within 30-days of the DOB. UHC still very competitive in DC and VA in my area.
