Accidental Life? AD&D

That's just a mind blowingly goofy statement. If you need insurance, you need insurance. It's not as if someone needs insurance if they get hit by a bus, but not if they die of cancer.

The way some people rationalize terrible products is absolutely insane.

Some people want extra coverage that is affordable . . .

Some people can't qualify for large face amounts.

You do realize that accidental death is like one of the highest causes of death in the USA - right? #1 cause for ages 1 thru 44 -and- #3 for ages 45 thru 64 . . ,

Your sig is incorrect too. You, as an Agent, don't determine anyone's rating and premium. You gather the information like a good little boy for the Insurance Carrier. They "determine" the rating and premiums . . .

I mostly agree with you. There are of course some reasons a person may want it. However it is not a replacement for Life insurance.

Amen...I have not written an accidental death policy in years. However, if I ran into a young man that was convinced that he did not need life insurance but would consider an AD&D plan I would write in a heartbeat.. If you look at the chart Tom posted a person 25-30 is more likely to die from an accident that all the other causes listed combined. If he doesn't ever need it, he has spent a few bucks per month. If he is killed in an accident, his family will think I am a hero.. The same is true of term insurance... Plus, if I write the AD&D, I am in the house and stand a chance to bring him around to buying what he actually needs..

Well said . . .

AD&D is a terrible plan. It's a complete ripoff. If a company provides it to you free of charge, sure take it. Otherwise, you need actual Term Life Insurance in force. Whether you die by accident or natural causes doesn't change the actual need for insurance.

Adequately insure yourself for the amount you need that will pay under any circumstance (Natural or Accidental Death).

Any payment of monthly premium is technically a bad bet for normal term and AD. It's all probability. Insurance carriers are just casinos in white collars. But the peace of mind knowing financial calamity will be avoided is worth the loss of "edge" in the wager.

Some people who can't buy term seem to feel comfortable with a small GI or graded policy and an AD policy since they're not going to pass any underwriting or the rates would be crazy if they did.
