Adding P & C to Current Lines... Contract Expectations??

I have H & L Licenses currently and built up a good base for my business. Recently licensed with P & C.

For my P & C business, I am planning on joining an independent agency that is already well established. My questions revolve around contract and compensation expectations. I plan on referring at first for the P & C lines that will be written. Then eventually, writing these lines as I learn how to.

What kind of commission structure would be reasonable. I am confident that I will be bringing in the business.

I just want a fair shake for my work as I build up this arm of my book.

Any feedback along these lines would be appreciated.

Expect the local P and C kingpin to own you and your business if you walk away from them. Multilevel marketing at its best. That is the P and C business. Welcome.

Thanks for the feedback. Some additional notes:

I plan to create my own leads.
I will learn to do the maintenance.
I would like to look into the commercial side of the business.

When the contract comes around, I will look into owning my own book and examining the departure clause along with the commission split.

Question: In some other post, I am wondering why the second year would have a lower split....?? Even when the renewals pay a lower amount, why wouldn't the split remain the same as in the first year?

P and C is all about renewals so... if you approached me with referrals then i would gladly give you 100% of first year commission. If you wanted to own the business that I was servicing for you then I would kindly tell you to kiss it with your tongue stuck out. Now, you may have found someone to do this. I don't know....
Not trying to be rude. Just straight forward.

----------

I sell life insurance "part time" because people don't die very often, but p and c is not a part time gig. There are changes to be made all the friggin time.
