Ah, Yes, the Start of It All....

I just wish the Democrats would be honest about this debate.

Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dean and the rest are all on record saying they want Single Payer. Now, magically, they've all changed their mind? Bull.

The plan here is to get the bill passed and then strangle the life out of the health insurance companies via regulation. Then, when the insurance companies are tits up, Single Payer is moved in. Messy, but it helps them reach their goals.

I realize it's difficult for professional politicians to be honest, but watching so many lie about an issue this critical is frustrating as hell.

Indeed that is so. Except my view would be that as they master the socialist tools they will not necessarily drive the carriers out of business but instead regulate them to the point where they are essentially public entities. Refer to the aforementioned public utilities model. That way they get to pretend that it is still in the private sector, and also as we continue to go broke it keeps expenses on their books rather than the national debt even though the government is the cost driver.

Change you can believe in, or not.

Yup. I think it's also possible that both scenarios could end up happening.

What you describe is already essentially happening in the Medicare Advantage field, as MRA cutbacks & increased regulation are beginning to cripple the players, and turning them into utility-like drones. The short term plan could be to drag the companies along for a while, with the long term plan being to suffocate them completely.

The Dems would then point at the evil insurance companies and say, "See? We told you they couldn't compete if they had some regulation!" - as if there isn't already massive regulation.

I don't know, you definitely could be right. Either way, I'm sick of the dishonesty. As usual.

Medicare Advantage: Let's see that is the plan that Obama is trying to eliminate or cut the subsidy to. Just remember, if you like the plan you have now you can keep it and your premiums won't go up.
