Am I the only one?

I've noticed the huge lag time with Mutual of O. lately too. I guess it stands to reason that they have been getting pounded with exiting MA beneficiaries. I've got three apps with them doing it and a total of 15 MA to Supplement applications pending currently with all carriers combined.

I wrote another med-supp with them last night...it may be the end of January before I get paid on it. Great company to write for though.

The new administration has never talked about ending MA's. They have stated they will cut back the funding since they are funded at 115pct of actual cost.

MA plans are a godsend to some (many) seniors. It does depend where you are selling, what is available and the price of Med Sups.

Are they a hassle and require an above average IQ to understand? Yes, but that hasn't stopped a lot of people from selling them. ;) If you are not informed and offering the best alternatives to your client, someone else will. There are zips and counties where I generally do not sell them and emphasize Med Sups, but where there are good networks and plans, the MA's have replaced Med Sups as the plans of choice. In Metro KC where Midwest and I work, that is definitely the case.

Yes, they have.

Obama added in the question and answer portion of the press conference that he has "not made yet a determination in how we're going to deal with the roll back of the Bush tax cuts." Cutting out certain programs, including Medicare Advantage, should help cut the expected costs of his health care plan Obama said.

Yes, he talked about cutting back, and AARP said that the government should cut back to 100%.

So, that is what I see happening. AARP has a lot of political connections and voter influence...

Am I completely missing it here? I have no interest in MA plans, there seems to be too many hoops to jump through. Too much regulation.

I'd rather sell health, life, FE, DI...whatever, anything except MA plans.

What am I missing? Care to sell me on MA's?

I'd rather sell brass name plates with the person's name engraved on it for them to put on the front door of their house than to sell a PFFS plans to people who live outside of the greater St. Louis and KC metro areas.

Too many rural Missourians have been "burned" by bottom feeding agents selling/giving away PFFS plans. I have received several phone calls in the last four weeks from people who want to dump their PFFS plan and get their Med Supp back.

Many doctors aren't taking them, they didn't have the co-pays explained to them and in at least one case the person owes over $1,200 in co-pays. At least that is what she told me.

Yup. When I am out of the Metro, UoO has really good rates and there is no reason to sell the PFFS plans. There have been only a few cases this year where I have moved current PFFS clients to another PFFS that was better, but that was only because they had exhausted their 12 months and are now trapped in the MA plans.

The way I have heard Pres-elect Obama discuss funding for the MA plans, when speaking specifically, was that they were overfunded at 115% and that they were going to look at taking the 15% away, not the entire program. Others here seem to have heard it the same way as I have, so I think the interpretation that the MA plans are going to be cut completely is not correct.

Take a look at National States Insurance Company. The are out of St. Louis.

Street level is 20% for the customary 6 years. If you are interested in contracting with them let me know. I am getting 23% commission.

No, I am not offering contracts. I am contracted through an agent, not a marketing organization, who lives in Illinois and also sells Med Supps in Missouri. If you sign up under him he will get you the same as he gave me, 23%.

Their rates in the St. Louis area are very competitive, however, in the Rolla area they are "over the top". I know, it doesn't make any sense, Rolla is "country" but Rolla rates are higher than St. Louis.

Give me a call if you are interested.

I went through all the rigmarole to contract and get appointed with a couple of companies for MA. That included, of course, having to go through the training sessions on the particular products for the particular companies. Wellcare was one.

Then came the mountain of forms, disclosures and the variations of the forms and disclosures necessary because I would be operating in 3 separate counties that each had different requirements.

If a box of squirrels had come up with the idea of MA together with all the conflicting rules and regulations, it could not possibly be worse than what we have to work with.

I have never done a cent of MA business. I have boxes and boxes of materials most of which remain unread and unused. I actually feel a bit guilty about having cost Wellcare so much, but I will never have the time to wade through everything with any hope of ever seeing a dime of real profit if I did wade through it all. Since I believe all of the effort I would have put out will turn out to be a waste anyway, I am very glad I did not take any more time on this.

Also, Since Wellcare is running full page ads locally inviting people to free lunches and to sign up, I'm glad I never invested my time and money only to have to compete against Wellcare in the first place.
