I have many friends who are Dentists but not able to sell Disability Insurance to them because ADA offers Disability Insurance to its members. Does anybody in this group has- Featurewise comparison of American Dental Association Disability Insurance with other companies. Does ADA insurance offers guaranteed premium rates, is the policy portable? I heard the ADA Insurance rates increase each year.

In this economy big organisations are taking away the livelihood of thousands of Independent Insurance Agents across the country. How will Independent Agents gets business when these associations start selling insurance themselves? Most of the insurance agents are struggling to pay monthly bills. Instead of Agents and their Families get a business and able to survive and buy food - big monopolies and big organisations are taking away ALL THE BUSINESS. Is this right business practice?

One company gets all the applications over the internet and through call centers = Less choice for Customers = Taking the opportunity of thousands of agents across the country which would have given them an income and purchasing power and eventually would have boosted the Economy.

The main reason of the current recession is the extinction of middle income groups. Fewer companies are monopolising the market by wiping out the smaller players from the market. These companies operates through call centers overseas and export jobs to other countries.Hence workers here have no jobs, cannot afford homes and a decent living, and remain unemployed as no new businesses coming in. These multinational companies will pay huge bonus to their CEOs, and top level executives and eventually require a bailout causing more burden to the middle and low income people.

Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers should join together to survive from Monopoly Businesses who wants to write all business themselves.

We could do without the rant about the economy...

But if you want to compare the ADA policy, why not ask a dentist to see the policy? If they are such good friends, at least one of them should be willing to let you see his/her policy.

Hey, there is a Dentist on this forum who is willing to split cases with agents. Why not contact him, let him show you his plan, sell him a plan, and have him charge you 1/2 for showing you his plan?

Wow a dentist Licensed to sell insurance? He or she is not working on my teeth! Or, if they are not licensed... Be prepared to lose yours. I guess you could always consider dentistry.

The ADA contract isn't terrible (there are far worse) but it has some short comings that you and your dentist friends should be aware of.

First, it's a guarnateed renewable product only. Not non-cancellable. So it can and does increase in price (just talked to a 60 year old dentist this week who is cancelling his policy because he just got his renewals and it's gotten to a point where he doesn't see value in the new cost).

Waiver of premium requires 6 months on claim and there's no refund of premium. Additionally there's a specific after which waiver will begin to waive premiums, May 1st and November 1st. So if you are out for 6 months, but that happens say December 1st, they will need to pay premiums until May, meaning they could be on claim for just about a year before they get waived premiums.

Waiver of elimination period is for reoccurent disabilieis only, which must be caused by the same sickness or injury and cannot have a recovered period of more than 90 days in between.

FIO/GIO/APO/whatever you want to call it has 5 option dates and is limited to $1000 per year.

Residual requires loss of time and/or duties as well as income, begins at 20% loss of income, and requires 80% loss of income to be considered totally disabled.

No recovery benefit available.

There's plenty of reason for your dentist friends to consider better coverage. Unless they have a spouse who is making significantly more money and pays all the bills.
