Hey everyone. I currently have an offer to get started with American National Insurance and I am trying to see if its a good idea or if I should hold out for a different offer. Are they are good company to work for? I tried to research some customer reviews and really there wasn't too much out there. How do their rates compare to the big name providers like SF and Farmers? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I started with ANPAC in 2000. They have typically been a great company as far as the client is concerned, but not so good to the agent force.

The commission is about 60% of what you'd get as an independent. Around here there is no support with expenses and they make agents pay for most marketing material. We don't even have an 800# to talk to the underwriters. Everything is on your dime.

They are like any other captive in that, when rates are competitive things are great. But at times like these, we are sucking wind to keep up with what we are losing.

my advice is don't do it. unless the commission has changed it is very low, and you pay for brochures, letterhead, business cards, computers, advertising, etc., etc., etc. when you leave you don't own the business and if you stay in the business you have a non compete and even if you don't contact the clients the still acuse you of doing that and they have got where they are suing every agent that leaves. they have taken a min. 25% across the board rate increase in KY, TN, GA, SC and some other states on the farm products as well. check out travelers and montgomery/liberty mutual, they have great commission and wonderful agribusiness products as well as personal and commercial lines and there is no quota on life insurance that you have to sell and the commission ranges from 12.5 to 20% depending on the line of business.

get out while you can -look around you and talk to other agents, especially those who have already left the company. are the still harping on the profile scores and cutting commission because of loss ratios even when you can't control most of that? what about the triline - all that is is forced bundling which is against the law.

Why would you consider working for an organization with such a limited product, low commission and very little support.

There are many people on these pages that can put you in touch with carriers that may meet your needs better. PM me and we can take some time discussing these and put you in touch with guys like FRANK - MED SUPPS. Good luck.
