AMS/CMS Question

Hello all!

I've got a quick general question for those experienced agents out there. Here's my situation:

I'm currently working as a P&C producer for one of those big guys. I'm moving back to my hometown in upstate NY in the next 3-4 months and am working with SmartChoice to start up my own agency. The rep over at SmartChoice is recommending a AMS, but I'm not crazy about the high start up cost plus the $200+ monthly cost; at least not yet.

While getting my feet on the ground, I was wondering if this package (which is much less expensive) would suffice.

Sage ACT! Pro, Act4Advisors, and Scan&Organize - $390

$400 is much more do-able now then $4000 for any AMS company.

I've been doing my research and reading thread after thread for weeks now, but would really like the "Yes" or "No" from someone experienced out there.

Thanks in advance!

I have no idea what AMS is, but I guess it is an Agency Management System.... am I close? I am a little familiar with Sage/ACT, so here I go.

My experience with a solo operation should be similar. For one, there is no inexpensive software to do a custom job. You MUST consider either your own time to customize a general CRM to your use, or pay someone else to do it for you.

If you go with ACT, be prepared to spend a lot of time customizing it for your needs. If time is critical, perphaps the expensive option for AMS may be your only choice.

A middle ground would be to learn to live with the shortcomings of a general CRM s/w product and save up for the big bucks option for when you really need it.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.

Hey, Good Luck! I'm a Smart Choice agent too and they are super people. I'm been one for 10 + years. However,.... I strongly suggest QQ Evolution.

Does what you need but affordable. I've been an IA for 26 and been around the block bit. It is the way to go for sure. :)

What is the difference between AMS/CRM? Is the functionality different? I'm trying to determine which one is bests for different business needs.
