Anyone have experience with license denial??

I applied for a life and health license in GA. When I did my application I answered no to the questions about previous felonies- even though I am a felon. I was told some time ago to stop disclosing my felonies on employment applications because it was over 7 years old so I thought the same would apply here. That's not the case at all! Also, one of the felonies involved "moral turpitude". It was an identity theft charge from 10 years ago. I was just using someone else's ID, it wasn't financial identity theft or anything like that. So when I got the denial notice I immediately filed for an administrative hearing.

I wrote a statement explaining all of this and also have about 5 character references to present at the hearing.
I'm wondering how often they actually change their decision and if there is anything else I should do..
Has anyone ever had experience with a hearing after denial??

I am not certain about Georgia but a felony involving identity theft is going to be a hard sell most likely since it would be so easy to turn your clients into victims. I wish you the best of luck and might want to see if there are any attorneys familiar with this type of hearing.

Are you wanting to help people with their retirement plans? :skeptical::confused::err:

Who told you this? If it was a legal authority (such as an attorney or parole officer or whomever), you'll want to disclose that in your appeal.

Also disclose that, whenever government agencies ask for a specific time period for a given question, you'll answer the question exactly as it is stated.

You'll need to show your court documents so they can understand the true nature of what it was. You're right: using someone's ID (or even a fake ID) to buy beer or whatever is a far different charge than using one's identity for fraud, etc. Just because it's called something, doesn't mean it was aptly called that.

They're human beings. That's the advantage of a hearing rather than just a computer doing the approval/denial process. Show them your documentation and your intention to comply with everything... and I bet you'll be just fine.

Even my current employer who is an agent said just put no bc he thought the 7 year rule applied as well. Now that it's turned in to a big deal, I think he'd probably rather me not tell the commissioners office that he advised me wrong haha. Thank you for your input!

How is the question worded on the app. After licensing if they approve next will be carriers.
