"Best" FMOs/IMOs (and Why?)

You might want to specify life, health, senior or annuities.
yer right. Do you think there are discernible differences among [whomever] w/ respect to fully-underwritten life and annuities? Personally I do more life business.

A comment on whether you should require a release commitment up front from an FMO.

I would have unconditionally agreed with that a year ago. However, some FMOs spend a good bit of money on training with new sales and marketing ideas and really need a commitment that you aren't just there to get some free training.

Two side to every issue.

I totally agree. However, regarding training... Oh, wait, that's also what I do.

Seriously, that may be fine for brand new agents but I don't know many veteran agents who be willing to enter into a captive situation for "training" or even marketing ideas.

It really isn't something that you consider that valuable is it? I wouldn't.

If a marketing organization is treating their agents fairly and giving them top commissions then why is the marketing organization concerned about giving a release in the first place. I don't know any agents who have wanted to leave who they are with to take less commission. Do you?

Not giving a release throws up a huge red flag to me. To me it says that they know that there are better deals for agents out there and they want to lock the agent in before he finds out.

I am currently with an organization that does not give releases for two companies that I represent. I have a contract with them that is substantially above street level and higher than I have been offered from anyone else.

Even if the did give releases why would I want one? I would only request one if I felt I was getting screwed.

Can I get information on FMO's? suggestion on who would be good to sign with.. and the benefits of using an FMO vs direct contracting

Shop around. Only two things to look for. Immediate release upon request, get it in writing, and street level or above commissions.

The biggest advantage I see of going through a marketing organization is if they can provide you higher commissions than you can get by going direct. I would place very little value in what most of them claim they will give in the way of "training" or "leads".

Check with Todd King. He is a member here. Nice guy, good contracts, gives releases.

I need an FMO that works with UHC, my FMO out of Tampa doesn't give a crap about what we do in the field or help with commission issues etc.
I need someone I can count on to be in my corner when my commissions are wrong, someone that can fight "with" me on these issues, not say, "just call the help desk at UHC they can help you"
