Building Referral Networks

Do you have the links for the cases? I have spoken to several attorneys regarding this and none of them and being able to cite any examples and I would love to be able to prove them wrong

I research to see if I could give gift cards to realtors for referrals and was told and shown that the answer was hell no and no but hell no so I stopped researching.this was about 3 years ago ish.

Just want to point out something. Don't send the gift card saying thanks for the referral. Send them random gift cards if they are sending you referrals. We do $5 Starbucks cards, lunch and deserts delivered to their office randomly. The processors love them.

The best luck I ever had was attending events and having 3-5 specific companies in mind that I wanted to quote their insurance. I mainly prospected for WC, so I was usually looking for specific companies based off their mods.

Anyways, everyone would get their shot @ their 30 second 'lightening round' spotlight. They would just bore everyone with their sleazy sales pitch and when it got to me, I would simply stand up and ask if anyone had an in @ 3 different places. I would usually get 1 in 3, so and so is the CEO and our wives are best friends or I golf with this guy, etc...it basically set me up to get an introduction, rather than a name and number.

I had good luck with it when I was on the producer side of things...

It's been awhile since this topic was discussed in detail. I think it is vitally important more so than cold calling. An area I need to learn. I'm sure there are some new ideas out there by now.. So I'll get the ball rolling by asking...

What are some of your ideas/methods for generating/acquiring/cultivating, and maintaining a referral network?

What hasn't worked for you when seeking referrals and networking?

What percentage of your new business is from your referral network?

Check out bni international. Networking group. It kicks ass. I put all my agents in them.

I'll vouch for BNI as well. I've been a member for 6 years now and it's well worth the 1-hour a week and membership fee. Difficult for P&C agents to get into a group, just the sheer numbers. If you can get in, take advantage
