The VEBA Plan is a tax-free health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) that enables your employer to make tax-free contributions into a special trust account on your behalf. These tax-free funds can then be used to pay or reimburse eligible out-of-pocket health care costs and premiums for yourself, your spouse, and your qualified IRS dependents.

When you see the data presented by someone other than Ford it comes out differently. However, let's say that it is accurate. Fine. Then tell the UAW to smarten the frig up. Some very good bailout options have been offered to the Big Three on the condition that the UAW establish wage and benefit parity with the non-big three makers. If there are only marginal differences, then what's the problem?

The problem is in the Management. Ford's the only one able to sustain through the crisis without a bridge loan. Why ? Because they diversified into fuel efficiency and compete in a global market. It is not the UAW's fault the assembly workers are constructing Denalis and Navigators it's managements terrible business plan. Not to mention our government allowing foriegn manufacturers to flood our market with government subsidised products from Japan and S. Korea. If those guys had to pay health care costs they wouldnt be able to compete with Americans, no one can.

The only concession I would have asked for of the UAW would be to take some of the pension in stock rather than cash, which they just did.

That's all UAW propaganda intended to make everyone think that anything less than what they have now is a sweatshop. In reality all of the non-union shops make excellent wages and have excellent benefits including health care. They may have to kick in a couple hundred a month if their health insurance covers the family which is pure heresy to UAW workers who think everything in life should flow from the union tit.
