Can I File a Claim on My Insurance if My Car is Not Registered?

It would be better if your car is registered because it proves the legality of who owns it, to whom the insurance company would pay for.

Oh come on.... you know that you don't legally own the car just because you have title to it. It has to be registered. This is why you won't get any tickets in the mail if your car is not registered at the time of the infraction, they don't know who to send it to....

I would elaborate on this, but I'm going through my previous claims payments and working on removing those who had invalid or suspicious registrations at the time. Obviously, that is what caused the accident.

WHAT LAPSED? The insurance? If a car goes unregistered the insurance company doesn't really care too much about that. I mean, a car should be registered but the insurance companies figure that an unregistered car will be caught by the DMV before anyone else. Honestly, it not a big deal as far as insurance goes. If there is a "lapse" for the insurance that mean there is no coverage, at all regardless of the circumstance. If an insured vehicle is hit while parked or not parked, coverage is afforded as long as the insurance is in place. Your vehicle will be towed and you could lose your license for not registering a vehicle.
