I'm a 31yr old healthy male other than the fact that I'm on MS medication as a precautionary measure (they found leasons on brain; no other symptoms).

Is there any way to qualify for disability insurance for lost income? I'm looking at coverage of approx $100k/yr in the event of a disability. I have a Long Term Insurance policy with Metlife which I purchased before getting on the medication.

Any suggestions/guidance would be appreciated!

It's entirely possible, however there's a good chance your policy would include a rider that would omit payment of benefits if you were out of work due to effects from the medication or from developing MS and going out of work as a result. The rider may be temporary or permanent, depends on the company.

This is a situation where information is crucial. There should be a very open conversation about your health background and medical records. You could try putting insurance companies against one another for a better underwriting decision, and DI is one of those products where underwriters tend to have a lot of discretion at their disposal.

What do you do professionally?

Do you have group LTD?

Could you live with a shortened benefit period (say 5 years instead of to age 65+)?

You should contact an agent on the forum that specializes in disability insurance. Sounds like it may require an in depth discussion. What state are you in?

MS itself is a decline with every disability company I know of. What drug are you taking? What was the doctor's specific diagnosis?
