Can This Be Done?

I've read through many of the great threads for new agents. Becoming an independent agent started by "healthagent" is really informative. I have a question to ask that may have been answered elsewhere but I can't find it. I almost signed on as a captive agent with a number of companies but have decided that independent is the way I want to go. I have a full time job where I'm off at 6pm every day and no weekends, so I have time to study and not have money issues force me to rush through things. I am going to join IHIAA and a ILIAA for their online training and contact Health Choice One in the near future. My question is this. Can I learn enough from these online courses alone to learn how to be successful as an independent agent? Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

You need real world selling experience to really learn anything of value.

IHIAA and ILIAA are both good organizations, that will shorten the learning curve quite a bit.

If you can't find a good local independent agency, with a mentor/student relationship, you could do far worse than HCO.

I have a lot of real world selling experience both with in home sales and business to business, but it is all with tangible items like home improvements and remodeling etc.. I don't have real world insurance sales, which is an intangible. I want to try and get my experience with the different products and go from there. I agree that having a mentor would be ideal but I do not know of anyone in my area who would be able to do that. Guess I should hunt around a bit but if I were to find someone how should I approach them as far as compensation for their time?
