There's been a shift.. IMO/Recruiters/MLM'ers spout off about being "Independent" BUT - some also say to go "local"/Captive - for the first 6-12 mo to learn the ropes.

Where do you lean - go local/captive or Indy up front?

Agentfive...5.. - suggests going local/captive but is Indy...??? Is it best to go local to learn the business??

I've been doing this for about a year now. I started as an Indy right away. I saw the potential right away. I had a couple bucks in my pocket and a lot of sales experience so I went for it.
Just be sure to go with an IMO that has legitimate training...and study the hell out of it and apply it over and over.
I had some tough weeks, but when I had good weeks the comp is much more substantial (as an Indy) it more than made up the difference.
You have to get out there and get bruised, pick yourself up and....every time analyze, where did I go wrong? What SHOULD I have done...how will I handle it differently from now on?
Practice....and as Nike says ...Just Do It

Indy is how I started. The scary part is mostly in your head the people want, scratch that NEED the product your just helping them get it.
there is no need to go captive there is abundance of support as indy if you choose wisely.
Even better support I would say.

Would not be successful @ life insurance sales, had I gotten licensed and tried to go independent from day one. It just wouldn't have worked with my personality.

That's one of the reasons we designed our online training platform the way that we did. We have an outline that we present to all new agents that has very precise direction. During the first 30 days the new agent gets several emails directing them to what needs to be memorized, what to learn, what videos to watch, along with webinar assignments. We also have 2 separate training programs that they log into during this time. They can always get a hold of me for help too!

Any agent that actually spends the time it takes, can learn to sell final expense through our system.

With all this being said, I still think "Most" brand new agents are better off finding a local agency that will hold their hand, take them on ride-alongs, and tuck them in @ night.

As I've said in the past, once they cut through some of the training curve, they can always go independent and hang with the big boys!

That sounds like something you'd see in a personal ad. You left off long walks on the beach. :twitchy:
