Not sure if this is the right place to post or not. My husband recently passed away. I need to know if I should have his name removed from my home owners policy; or can just wait until it is time to be renewed? I know it sounds silly, but it is really hard to take his name off of documents.

If I do have has name removed can the insurance company cancel or refuse to renew my pokiy because of this change. I live in Florida and it is pretty scary to be without insurance.

Have you had the deed updated on your property yet? Your insurance policy should match what is on the deed. Is your policy currently in both your names? If so should be very easy to have his name removed. Just provide a copy of the revised deed AND a copy of his death certificate. If the policy was only in his name you may need to rewrite the policy. Depends on the company. I assume you have his last name. In Florida marriage considers you both as one so I dont think you will have any trouble.

The question is, does the inclusion of your husband's name affect your insurance coverage benefits? if not, why bother?

Rules usually vary with the company. Best to check with your insurance company and go with what they say.
