I'm 25
car is honda element 2003, 150k miles
drive less than 10k miles per year
Been in a very small accident in the last year (while i was with Farmer's insurance)
Live in Los Angeles, California.

Currently paying $60 (liability only) with 21st Century Auto Insurance. Am I paying too much?

Can I find anything cheaper than this? I keep seeing ads for $20 per month and the like, but all of them turn out to be false advertising.
I'm unable to find any real information, is there such a thing as paying $20 per month?

In LA?
With an accident?
And your 25?

No such thing as $20 a month car insurance in your situation. They are stretching a bit beyond the truth in some of those ads.

It never hurts to shop for a better price. If you were licensed at age 16, and now have 9 years driving experience, your company now may not be rating you as having 9 years driving experience yet. If you waited until age 17 or 18 to get licensed, you may see a price break in a year or two.

But, as Dan pointed out, car insurance only gets so cheap -- which may not be cheap at all, particularly in big, congested cities like LA. $60 a month may be a good deal for you.

If every car insurance company could save you hundreds of dollars, you could keep changing companies until they start paying you to insure with them. Don't hold your breath for that to happen.

There is a common misconception that agents can make the rates whatever they want it to be up or down. Insurance rates are filed with the State and cannot be changed. Coverage's can be changed and different carriers can offer different rates but if you find a good independent agent that can shop many different carriers you should be able to find the best rate in one stop. The one thing to look out for is Broker Fees. These are charged by the agent and are basically a fee for their time to shop for you. It is very common in CA however not every agency does this. The rate you are paying sounds fairly low to be honest but of course your coverages will come into play in that rate. I would recommend you find an agent that will take the time to explain what you have and what you need. Cheaper is not always better. The right coverage at the best rate is what you want. Take a look at the Pacific Crest Insurance website to find an agent that can assist you.

I'd try and focus on the low miles you drive. State Farm has a usage based program that will price on mileage so it wouldn't hurt checking with them to see how much low mileage can help.
