At least one carrier is of the belief they do not have to offer GI child health insurance until HHS defines open enrollment.

This is not in memo form, but was relayed to me during a phone conversation. I was asking about child rates, max rate up, etc and was told "until further notice" they will issue child policies, as a dependent, but they can also decline children.

I was told a similar thing for my state.
There will be an open enrollment for kids stand alone policy that will be GI. Also told verbally that the premium will be 400% of the preferred rate which is about $400 a month.

Here is the F upped thing. If the GI for child stand alone is $400 a month but we have a high risk pool plan that is $222 a month. Right now we have only one carrier that in going to be in that market they know the high risk pool rates.

This is a real mess and I think its going to get worse.

We broker/agents that spend all this time to stay on top of the market are going to get screwed. Here we have all this information to help people but there will be no one to pay us for our time.

I don't plan on doing any GI kids unless I absolutely have to.

Cigna won't pay a commission on any policy issued with even ONE GI kid. No commissions on anyone. That means they will only see apps on anyone age 19 and up from me.

GR isn't saying.

BX will issue Tonik plans only for children going forward and "until further notice" will pay a commission.

KP will issue child only and "until further notice" will pay a commission.

Aetna is not doing child only, will not tell me what the max rate up is and is ambivalent on commissions.

Our new HHS/Illinois high-risk pool has 1,200 applicants since its 8/23/2010 inception. It's projected to stop taking applicants at 3,500. The $166 million allocated from the Fed Government is projected to be used up by mid 2012.

Since it will indeed cost less for children to enroll in the high-risk pools vs. the one or two stan-alone private plans, the HHS/Illinois pool and those in the rest of the country, will fill up faster thereby exhausting their fund allocations ahead of schedule.

You're right ABC...all of this is going to blow up. I just hope you're wrong about agents receiving most of the shrapnel!

Just checked PCIP for GA.

Age 0 - 34 = $323/month.

That's a bargain.

Well, except for the fact the plan doesn't cover anything and there are like maybe 6 doctors in Atlanta that will treat you.

But other than that . . .

That's interesting because the closest providers for MD are also in Atlanta.

In Chicago, Ages 0 - 34 is only $185 per month. $2,000 deductible + 20% of the next $11,750 in billing. (Goofy government stop-loss number..LOL.) Costs even less over the rest of the state.

It's PPO but nowhere on the site is the actual PPO listed. There's our government again.:goofy:

I am out of the stand alone kids policies because I have no carrier to sell.
Maybe it will be better this way. I will just tell Mom's and Dad's to call their elected officials to get advice for a kids health plan.
