Client Declined By Assurant. Any Hope At Getting Issued Elsewhere?

Had a client get declined a couple weeks ago with Assurant for blood pressure, took medication for a back problem a couple years ago, had a recent bout with mumps.

Wondering has anyone got a client issued with another carrier once you answer the dreaded "have you ever been ridered, declined, or rated for any other health insurance?"

any thoughts or advice.. I am appointed with Bx/Aetna/Golden Rule as well as Assurant

I have had quite a few approved following a decline. You just need to know carrier underwriting guidelines, how underwriters think, and how to give the underwriter an opportunity to say yes.

Time can be quite tough and they love to rider stuff. Must be more to the story than just those items.

Why did they decline this person?

just those items listed previous. and possibly because prior to my application, he submitted another with Time through another agent, and to my knowledge he didnt release this info. regarding some of his medical history.

sad thing is he is a healthy guy. and worse he's got a Mega policy that he desperately wants to urinate on. :D

Maybe. Maybe not.

I'll bet it's the hypertension that's a problem.

Height/weight? Tobacco use?

Controlled HBP? What med(s)? How long since Dx?

a lil overweight. 5'7" 200 or so....no tobacco, although he did smoke 3 months ago, so still getting the rating..

as far as the medication. the hospital visit of the blood pressure was a one time event, his wife was divorcing him, etc.

he takes tenormin? not sure of the dosage. hasnt had a high reading in 4 or 5 years.

Ah hah. Just as I thought.

The combination of height/weight, recent tobacco use, and high blood pressure is the killer.

BX is Guaranted Issue in NC, will be pricey. I have had good luck in NC with UHC in the same type of situation when someone gets delined with Wellpath or Assurant.
