Things have been known to mysteriously disappear in my life. I usually just misplaced it and it shows up a year later. That's what this clause is for. If you file a police report (Which is criminal if you do so fraudulently), the insurance company will usually use that as evidence of theft.

Sure, some people might actually file a police report just to commit fraud on an insurance claim, but those kinds of people usually get found out sooner or later and really screw themselves.
