Until we know your family size and income (please do not post), no one can properly answer your question. A recent quick web search revealed pregnant women in DC can obtain Medicaid up to 300% of federal poverty. For large families this could be a fairly sizeable income.

I would also verify this information as information online may not be accurate or up to date. In Texas we give all pregnant persons free insurance.

I find it hard to believe this person can not get on Medicaid or some assistance program.

The company who was the "company of record" at the time of inception would be the one providing coverage.
In my opinion you and your wife are still covered under the old plan since that was the one providing coverage when the inception occurred. Check with the insurance commissioner of your jurisdiction to be sure.

If you are an agent, you might want to make sure your E & O has a very high limit.
