Combating the "Good Ol' Boys" Ideology !

Are you Mormon? I am located here in Sacramento and the mormon owned businesses do business with one of the 2 or 3 mormon owned agencies. They are very nice people and they will let you quote... but you will never get the account.

Yep... Died in wool Mormon I am and the 2 or 3 agencies you refer to are probably my family(save it be myself and my brother who prefer to separate religion and business, in other words we try to avoid writing business for people of our own faith.... a bit harder for me living in utah) if they are in the northern area, Roseville/Citrus Heights/Rocklin/Lincoln area and if the name Neilson, Sheppard, or Hawk is in the title... that would be us (hopefully not a bad thing). But honestly I am not used to so many Mormons in one area, and you are right the ones in Ca are pretty nice...have not decided yet if I can say the same for the Utah ones...:D but religion aside Thanks for all the input guys... I really did not know how to handle this being it was like visiting another planet... but now I think I have a good Idea!;)

Well Salt Lake is actually only 20% mormon now of days... its just south 30 minutes in utah county that is heavily populated but as I mentioned I prefer not to, does not mean I will not. It is just a bit harder because as Bertolinoins mentioned they are super loyal to their own agents wether your mormon or not they wont leave their current agent... due to the fear of social conflict

Scottyj, I think there is a HUGE difference between keeping church and business separate and deciding to not write Mormons. As a Mormon I understand why you wouldn't want to prospect at church (although some faiths are perfectly fine with that), but I think it's goofy that you wouldn't want to sell insurance to another Mormon. Why the dilemma? Isn't that flat out discrimination?

For the record, I will sell insurance to other Mormons.

Its not at all about descrimination, I never said I would turn down a member of my own faith if they came to me for a quote but in my experiance there are certain qualities in individuals not just LDS but seem to be more prevalent in the LDS faith that I do not jump for joy at the thought of facing or dealing with when providing a quote. I believe those in denial would call it being "Frugal"

As an agent I always try to put my best foot forward and provide the most competative quote for my prospects but when that is not enough and a prospect tries to haggle or fish for additional or imaginary discounts it really burns me up. I mean I could be saving them 1200 dollars a year and somehow even though that is the best I can do... It still is not enough
