Confika Virus. Microsoft Cure.

The scan will only work in IE and it appears they want you to sign up for their service.

MS also offers a free download for their malicious software removal tool

I was not aware of that as I use IE.
I have the malicious software tool, but the test I ran was the complete one. Free for one time use.
BTW it takes around 2 hours to run. I did not have any virus/adware, but it did fix numerous errors in the registry.

I have not tried the MS "cure"...and I'm not going to sign up for their service.
But..
I can recommend either malwarebytes.org or superantispyware.com.....they both are free, and have been cleaning the malware before all the hype.Made by geeks in white hats who like to beat the geeks in black hats ( the bad guys who write the malware/viruses). Pick 1, dowload it, install it, then update it( this is an important step!) and run it today!
It will also clean an infected machine( at least on past bombs)....it may take some work, but it should.
Make sure your current antivirus software is RUNNING/ON ( viruses can shut it off or disable it!) AND up to date ( I keep mine up but still found vundo and sysguard viruses on every system I've looked at!)
As I said in a previous post...I have both on a flash drive just in case.
It's going to be interesting to see what really happens tomorrow...or the following days ( it may take a while to see the real effects).
But, my bet is:...if you start your computer tomorrow and a "anti virus /spyware scanner"( it's fake!) that you don't own pops up...you know you got hit
Good luck tomorrow!

Mayor,

Both sites you mentioned have a trial and paid version, which one do you use?

Thanks

Malwarebytes is great and free. Other free ones are AVG and Avast. I like for paying AV & spyware is PC Tools Spyware Doctor & AV. The cost is about $30 on sale for 3 machine copy.

I now use the paid version of both.
About a month ago, my home network ( 2 pc's, a note book, a media server and main server...yes, I know, I'm a geek)was brought down by variants of Vundo and/or rogue sysguard. It was the hardest virus I've ever dealt with...it was pretty smart in hiding, renaming itself, not allowing anti virus programs to be loaded or run, etc.Take a look at the forums on malwarebytes for more info if you want( warning..it can get techie)
I used the trial versions...they were so good ,I bought them.

Just pay attention when downloading, installing, updating and running. Make sure you follow the steps...it's easy to blow past things. They are both fairly intuitive if you pay attention.

They each work a little different...and each found different malware that the other didn't
I have used both( free versions) here at the agency and found a butt load of stuff. We have the latest Norton on all systems here at the agency.
As an fyi...at home I had the MacAffee that comes with Comcast on some systems and a paid Norton on other systems. Neither of these found or stopped the virus...and both were up to date. I have had some interesting and very disatifying conversations with both companies since.

Thanks for all the info!!

This world is going to shite....Seems the crooks have the good guys out numbered.

Whatever happened to the good old days when you could trust just about everyone and you never worried about locking your door.

I hate to see what my kids are going to have to deal with!!

Ever since the first word was written...it has been proclaimed the world is going to shite.....yet, here we still are.

I'd say the good /bad ratio is about the same as always...just more of each....and better( or is that worse) ways to be bad.

WE make the world around us....good or bad.

Teach your kids and help them/hope they turn out to be the good guys.

As far as what will happen tomorrow....more of a pebble in the sneaker...when you look at what a lot of people have to deal with in this world.
