So I had posted a little while back and I just had my third interview with MassMutual...I sort of tried to "not do as well" on purpose to see if it would sway them a little or not but I guess they are probably gonna hire me

What they want is for me to penetrate the indian/pakistani/southeast asian market in the georgia area

I am of that decent obviously but I was just given this exercise to come up with 200 people and do like 30 market surveys (usually its 15 i donno why she gave me more)

Anyways my question is I don't even think I can come up with 125 names...and im sort of worried about given the names of everyone I know to the company I hear they might keep em for records even if i don't join up

Also when you start out...what are you selling? I read somewhere you only can sell life insurance when you start out? if that's true I don't think I will be starting off very well...I don't think there's a big as market in the indian/pakistani community for life insurance and disability insurance as there is for small business products/college savings/retirement maybe etc...

Anyways like I said I can probably come up with 150-200 names but I doubt I can convery any one of those names to an meeting or a sale

theres no one serving the indian/pakistani community from that agency and they said they had an indian guy do 30k in 3 months when he was here but apparently relocated...so it is an untapped market I guess or underutilized

am i reading too much into this...I just don't know what to think right now with the job market the way it is...(im gonna be graduating in may) id like to get a job secured at least...ill be living with my parents so its not like i need a ton of money so i have perfect conditions for starting in this business no family/responsibilities/bills etc..

sorry for the long post I hope someone can answer the questions in my post that are hidden in the 4 paragraphs lol

You don't have to necessarily sell to all of your contacts but by letting them all know that you are now in the insurance industry you can probably generate referrals from them. Also, you're not limited to selling only life products when starting out. Check with your manager on who you're going to be appointed with and what products are available.

Skip the games with them about purposely trying to not do well at the interview to test them. Show some balls as far as sitting up in the saddle and having a real business discussion with them to do some fact finding about whether you can make it work. You have to be an octave higher than they are.

The bottom line is that both you and the company think that you can do well in that segment of the community. Start moving toward that and identifying the areas where you will do well. Just tell them flat out that the 200 names thing is not going to work well for you but you will work with them to put together a solid business plan for your first few months, then see what they say back. If you dont have the 200 names tell them you will prospect those names as you go along by going B2B or coldcalling people. Whatever. Dont let a stupid training exercise derail you or deter you from having a real business discussion with them. You can always go someplace else and they know that too. If they prefer a drone who can name 200 people right off because he drinks with them down at the Elks Club every night then fine. What is he going to do after he runs through all of his friends and family?

Find out the name of the Indian guy who was there and left because he "relocated." Talk to him about what the real scoop is as far as his experience with them.

Mass is a fine carrier, but did you look at Peachtree Planning? Might be a better choice.

I would check out Peachtree Planning. Somarco is one of the sharpest people on this board. Peachtree is a Guardian Agency and will be very similar to MM. In my book if your are going to be captive I would look at MM or Guardian. Guardian has a very nice Field Representative contract.

Thanks guys...yes I just talked to my dad and hes a small business owner and it was very encouraging I Asked him what he thought would be the demand in the community....

I don't know where I picked up the fact that you can only sell life products in the beginning...maybe it was another board ill make sure with the recruiter

got my 4th meeting coming up with them and will let you guys know how that goes
