Good Morning
Let me start by saying this is NOT my Insured ( hahah) sadly this is a friends parents who have a loss and I need to clarify something.

Arizona HO policy with Amica
Arizona Auto policy with Amica

Insured drives his own car through his garage .. damages some of his own personal property - boxes of china and glass

We know and understand the Auto policy will not pay for the property.. they will pay for the car ect...

Can there be coverage on the HO policy ? My concern is an exclusion you cant damage your own property type of thing.. any help appreciated :)

HO would cover theft or vandalism, but it sounds like this was neither. It sounds like this is just one of those things that happens and it stinks.

Actually, if I recall, isn't one of the named perils (I can't remember since I do open peril) damage from vehicles?

So I think the homeowners would be able to cover it, which is why the auto does NOT. Since it is for the contents, it would be named peril unless they got an HO5 or endorsed open peril property on there.

Check the AZ policy though, that is where your answer is going to come from.

Yep two claims one on auto one on home. Have had this happen to a few clients. No fun telling them that they have to pay two deductibles!

I'd wonder if the respective rate increases would justify the claim.

Normally it isn't. But I had one that was bad the lady thought the car was in R, not drive and wow she did some major damage. But if it was just the car and a garage door...no way I'd file it...

Some companies allow one deductible if the home and auto are covered by the same company. And usually if a car is going to do some serious damage it is probably a nicer car as well. First accident foregiveness hopefully will come into play here.

are the surcharges for rate increase always WORST then filing a small claim?

if i pay 1000 a yr on HO and the claim on the garage is around 6k.

my premium cant jump to like 3k wouldnt it be like 1.1k, 1.4k tops?

Depends on the carrier, but in general, I would expect a 50% rate increase on the HO policy.

So, if you figure a $6K claim, minus a $1K deductible, net $5K. Additional premium of $500 for 3 years = $1500. Net net is about $3.5K for the claim. Worth filing.

Now, if you had a $4k claim with a $2500 deductible, probably not worth it at all.
