Looking for recommendations on dash cams. Brands, options, must haves?

My youngest was recently hit by a hit and run driver. They initially denied doing it to PD and their carrier. Then blamed my daughter. Until the dash cam video showed the collision and slow speed chase.

So, I have been looking for two cameras. There seems to be a really wide range of options and prices.

Driving pattern = my wife maybe 4,000 per yr. Mostly within 10 mile radius. Super safe driver.
Me = random road trips 4-500 miles. A bit more aggressive.

Any recommendations or must haves.

Ive been looking around as well.

Battery vs. plugged vs. rechargeable seems to be a big consideration on the surface.

Field of view is next. (need to see for it to be effective)

If it uses an app to download/view, then the quality of that app is very important. I have a few low budget home security cameras and 1 app works great, the other is horrible. It makes a huge difference in use.

Also the size. A large SUV or Truck might not care. For my midsized sedan, it certainly matters. I hate obstructions in my field of view, so Im looking for something low profile.

All of that. I have had my front and rear bumpers crunched on separate trips. Luckily a bouncer witness the last one and got the license plate.
So parked recording would be a plus. Which I think needs a battery.

In a motel parking lot one night a jacked up full size truck dented my rear bumper (I only knew it was jacked up based on where the dent was and what was in the parking lot that was that high - inspected all of them and couldn't tell who hit me). The motel security cameras were fake. Certainly that would have been useful had I had a dash cam.

A couple of years ago I got back from a road trip and found my back bumper and truck lid crunched. Probably from a truck hitch. No idea where it happened. $$ out of pocket. Could have bought a couple cams for that money.
