A carrier asks
within the past 12 months... have you been advised to get a diagnostic test for which hasnt been started, completed or results known?

is this big issue.
any workarounds?
occur often?

Prepare your prospect in advance by instructing them to respond to all questions with either a yes or no. You may also instruct them to refrain from elaborating in attempt to explain. This is especially important in telesales. The health interviewers have often misinterpreted an explanation to mean "Yes". The same goes for your prospect responding, "No, but...."
Read the question verbatim. Mirror your client's pace when speaking. Annunciate clearly. If necessary, emphasize key words and allow them to respond. When in doubt, instruct your prospect before and after you read the question. For example, "Ms. Phx, Yes or No. Within the past 12 months, have you.....Yes or No?"

Caution your clients to be truthful when answering any questions. A misrepresentation, concealment, or fraud can get a policy rescinded and claims denied.

In true FE, simplified underwriting, and low face amounts, 2 years and the policy is most likely to be paid irregardless. However; I have had rescinded claims prior to a full 2 years because of misrepresentation, often by a clients ignorance of his own conditions. Be that because of selective hearing or just plain didn't understand his doctor. Sad but true.

After 2 yrs the claim is paid period in 3-5 days unless it's some far fetched fraud like the death certificate looks fake . I've had few contestable claims but my friends had many and I bet 1/2 haven't paid . The truth is many times doctors to protect themselves have crazy things in their notes . For instance many people on inhalers say they don't have copd but many drs have copd in their notes .

I had my first unpaid contestable claim this year.. The Dr. had a previous diagnosis of cancer in the records that neither the insured or his wife knew about.
