Dental Coverage Questions with MAPD

If someone has dental coverage with their MAPD, and also has a separate dental plan, will both plans pay on a claim? What I mean is can one act as a primary, and the other as supplement (kinda like original medicare with a supplement)? Or is it completely unnecessary to have two plans?

There's probably verbiage in both policies that explains what to do here, but the way I see it, they're paying a premium for an individual indemnity plan, so there shouldn't be a problem in receiving those benefits as well.

To avoid confusion, I'd have them present their MA card at the dentist, then file their individual policy separately, i.e. fill out a claim form and mail it in. If they were to give an insurance clerk both cards, I'd imagine they would find a way to screw it up.
