Dental/Vision/Hearing

I know you guys probably don't like to bother with this, but when I or my telemarketer is cold calling, usually this is what my prospects are most interested in. I use it to set the appointment and get in the door, then find out about their other insurance needs.

I was appointed with I believe Constitution, but have since switched to Medico, which seems to be much better as far as "reasonable and customary" pay outs towards expensive dental work. It costs between $23-$43 per person per month depending on age, and they also offer a small household discount. The first year they pay 60% of all charges, the second year 70%, and the third and every year after 80%. The client chooses a maximum yearly benefit of either $1000 or $1500. There is a one year wait for crowns, dentures, etc. There is a six month wait for root canals and existing eye glasses.

The commission is low, 25% of the annualized premium, however I find senior citizens really want good dental coverage, and the one that is available with Secure Horizons sucks, according to my clients.

What do you guys think of this one?

I contracted with them a few years ago to sell that plan. It was a crap plan and no one was really interested in it. I am no longer contracted with them.

$300/yr for a $1000 plan with deductables is just not good business for the client and you only make $75 for the trouble of selling and servicing it.

Premium in Michigan is $20-$30 monthly for age range of 18-84 without household discounts.

I think its an excellent plan and an easy add-on to a med supp sale. Real easy application, easy underwriting.

Its easy to use, the senior understands it, the dentists take it, and some of the benefit can be used for vision such as exams and glasses. Even bigger I've found especially for senior men, is that the benefit can be used for hearing aids and repairs, which are expensive.

So even if it doesn't cover everything, for the price its a good deal for the coverage.

And its a sticky plan too in how it stays on the books.

I presented Medico dental to a few seniors, and the overwhelming response was that it was too much for too little. I'm sure that you would have much more success selling it with a MedSupp that saved them say $23 to $43 per month or more.

I think Ritter is offering 50% commission, the rates are not bad in Michigan at all. I think it's like $25 or $30 a month for 65 year old with a 1,000 benefit. It pays $50 for cleanings at 100%

I think exams, fillings, x-rays are covered right away with no waiting periods, you'll want to check with the company. cleanings I believe are covered after 90 days

My whole selling point is that if they hold on to it for year, it will cover 80% towards dentures, which are expensive. Also, they can use towards dental, vision, and hearing, any of the three, vs. stand alone dental. So, what I run into is a couple, the husband needs dental work and the wife needs new glasses, so they can both sign up for this with that household discount.

I agree it's not all that, but still, it's a way to get in the door. The commission does blow.

it will cover 80% towards dentures

I would be real careful about making statements like that unless you want to chip in and pick up the difference.

Truth is, with any of these plans you have no idea what their R&C schedule is, or what percentile they use.

That 80% could very easily end up 40% of actual charges.

I requested a detailed outline of what they consider "reasonable and customary" charges

That is only half the answer. And you did not say what percentile they use for R&C.

Do you also have a list of charges for procedures by dentists in the area?

How in the world are you only getting 25% commission? I offer them and the lowest contract that I see is 45% in TX.
