Did My Previous Home Insurance Company Screw Me

I totally agree. I protect my clients from themselves way to much. I'm not going to do it anymore. The hell with them, let them figure it out.

They aren't in kindergarten.

Not sure what you feel like you have to "protect" them from on life/health claims. You are either sick or dead...and no agent is going to change those facts.

Even auto/home - are you an adjuster as well as an agent?

No I don't really do life or health. I really meant the comment as, think before you file a claim. You know how stupid people are, they have a $1,000 deductible on their home insurance and call the insurance company to file a $700 claim.

Happens all the time in FL people don't think.

Here is what happened.

Due to a drain malfunction after much rain, I discovered (weeks later) that mold was coming through the bottom of one of our walls. So, I called my insurance company. They sent an investigator out to inspect it. His report said that it was "surface water" and he and my insurance broker recommended closing the case (not going forward with the claim), since the insurance company would likely not cover the damage. So, I closed the claim.

However, the property shows a claim on the record, even though it says that it was closed and nothing was paid.

Did my insurance company screw me?

No, your insurance company did not screw you. You filed a claim, they sent an adjuster to investigate the claim and determined it was not a covered cause of loss. The adjuster apparently had time to inspect the loss and file a report before you elected to withdraw the claim. They record that kind of thing. A claim is a claim, and regardless of the outcome of the claim, they still document what you claimed and when.

How in the world is keeping good notes about interaction with a customer "screwing you"?

I had two "dumb" claims this month. One tried to file a homeowners claim because he tripped and fell in his own house and another guy for a dishwasher that didn't work. Both were quick denials but could have been avoided if they called me first.

In MD $0 claims do affect you. I've had applications for new business denied because 3 $0 claims were on the record.

Think before you post.

No one is disputing there are dumb home and auto claims. But when it comes to health and life, it is clearer. Also, there is no reason not to file a death claim. The person is dead. Even if it is inside two years and will be contested, at least they get the premium back.

Sometimes even if 0 dollars are paid out to you it will show the expense paid on the clue report for the adjuster especialy if a third party adjuster was used.
