Otherwise you will have to pay for a cost per 1000 pieces of mail (Need a lead, Chris at Lead Connections). Where are you located?

You don't want to do fixed cost as an individual agent. That rarely goes well. Price per 1000 will get better age range for you.
to get on a real good fixed cost lead mailer you need to do it as part of an IMO mailing huge amounts of mail. Your choice of IMO should be heavily weighed on getting into a good set cost direct mail lead program. If yours is not offering that, it's probably not the best place to be.
Depending on where you are located, I have a LOT of excess RGI lead inventory in different states that I can sell to agents that want to try out some of the RGI leads to see if they really do work better for you. I know the Dallas Texas area, the Las Vegas area, central Indiana, and western Tennessee all have some excess leads. Just call the number on my website if you are near any of those areas and want to try some out.

If you're a door knocker at all, the best bang for the buck is to mail 1000 pieces with MainStreetPowerMail, and pay the extra $10 or whatever it is to have the cards mailed back to you, not just scanned and emailed. Also, ask for a seed card to be mailed to you. MSPM will give you access to the entire list you mailed to for 12 months using an online app that maps all of the card recipients out for you. Then, when you go to see someone who mailed tha card back you can go and knock all the ones nearby who received the card but didn't mail it back. I use the seed card as a "demo" mode "We sent a card to you just like this one but we haven't gotten yours back yet ..."
