Do Radio Ads Work?

Have any of you placed an ad on the radio?

Also, I wonder if the radio station will let an insurance agent be a guest and talk about insurance and if they charge him for it about how much?

Have any of you, ever tried promoting yourself on the radio?

I worked for a life insurance direct marketer who did radio ads. There were certain markets and stations that produced better results than others. In those better markets the ads worked great if you consistently place them over a period of time. I remember knowing every day when the ads were airing and like clockwork, inbound calls started pouring in. Buying only a few radio ads will be a crap shoot, especially if you don't do the market research. In the end, they only aired ads in 3 cities on specific conservative stations.

I think if you do it in conjunction with other marketing material it can have a positive affect. No way would I do it on its own.

The guest talk may work as you then could be looked at as a consumer advocate...but I think this would be something that you would need to sink time and money into to see a nice ROI.

They work well for the radio station. I think Christian stations and stations with conservative talk radio are the best places to consider for advertising. I have a friend with a furniture store who has been very successful advertising on talk radio.

Didn't know there were liberal radio stations out there. My guess is it's more about format and demographics. The local "conservative" station is the only outlet for talk radio that I know of. Not all the programming is conservative, some sports, some consumer advocacy; certainly wouldn't claim that the listening audience is conservative. Wonder what the best demographics look like.

Years ago, a conservative acquaintance rented time from an AM station and sold ads and charged guests to come on his program to flack their product. This paid for the time and supplemented his income. He ended up doing very well with it.

Yes to all three. Ask yourself when was the last time you personally responded to a radio ad. That should answer your question if they work or not.
