Do We Have a Right?

Do Americans, and/or all people living in America, have the right to low cost health insurance or low (or no cost) health care?

In other words, if we become ill or injured, do we have a right to care?

Seems to me that this new Obamacare left out this discussion and made the assumption that we do.

Don't you know that liberals rewrite the constitution anyway it suits them. The whole concept of abortion rights is based upon the right to privacy as guaranteed by the constitution. Can someone please tell me how to look up and read in the constitution about my right to privacy??????!!!!!!!!!!

Just like the bible, I don't believe the Constitution was ever meant to be interpreted litterally. And the Constitution was certainly meant to evolve as our nation does. Lots of good things have come from the Supreme Court trying to interpret the intent of the framers of the Constitution. I would guess the right to privacy came from the 10th Amendment and perhaps the 1st, freedom of expression.

I am all for everyone having access to a basic, affordable level of health care. But Obamacare isn't it.

There is a difference between the bible and the constitution. One is a work of fiction, and the other is a document to limit the power of the federal government.

We can amend the constitution if needed but congress, the potus and the scotus have decided this is too much trouble so they will rewrite it as necessary.

Tough issue: everyone has access to health care, not everyone can afford it. The only way for people to afford it who otherwise can not is for it to be subsidized by those who do have affordable access already.

My opinion: there should be a safety net for affordable health care, but there should be skin in the game (ie premiums). The Maryland and Minnesota risk pools are what I wish the national model would have followed.

I agree completely. There should be no free rides, and the system should encourage work and earning your own income. As long as someone earns income, they contribute to the system, even if they do no pay income taxes.

The Constitution was also meant to be re-written by every other generation to best suit the society during those times.

Does anything think that we could create a document today that would properly address all situations in the year 2610?

If you think the framers could possibly fathom nuclear weapons or the internet just imagine what society will be like 600 years from now.

Maybe all diseases are gone and people live to be 150. I wonder how that would effect the economy. Could laws be created today to deal with that? Not a chance in hell.

But that was originally the job of the states. The Federal Government was never meant have the power it has usurped. The Constitution was written the way it was to give Washington very limited powers. Why not just call us a America instead of the United States of America? The Confederate States saw this government coming, I only wish they would have succeeded. No I'm not for slavery and if anyone thinks Lincoln started the Civil War over slavery you need to read a history book.

I believe the Constitution was written to be read and interpreted literally. Every word was carefully selected to limit the power of the federal government.

The best government is the government closest to the people. I know most of my state government representatives. I like to be able to see them in town buying groceries and underwear.
