Does the Weather Matter?

Does the Weather really affect sales?

I had an agent tell me that when the weather is bad outside, they try and stay home and not make any appointments or prospect.

But I would think that more prospects would be home in bad weather.

In great weather, they would be out doing more and would be busier, I would think.
If it is raining for example, they could not be outside working in the yards or would be more limited to the things they could do. They might have more time for you.

So, does weather really matter? Do people buy more in the summer then the winter, or on bad weather day’s verses good weather days?

I love to stay home on cold snowy days and call small busines owner that do outside work. Its about the only time I can reaach them.

A door knocking friend of mine said he always did best hopping in his 4 wheel drive on the snowy days
where he could meet with both husband and wife.

Im always out prospecting or running appointments, regardless of the weather. I dont think weather matters at all, honestly. I closed my biggest deal to date, worth $100,000 AV on a snowy day in December. :)

When the weather is the worst is the best time for me to prospect. I work the senior market and seniors stay home and don't usually go out during inclement weather.

If the weather is nice they usually go to "the Wal-mart" or the guys have to "take mother" to get her hair colored blue. :D

I sell a lot more insurance during the winter months than during the summer. Probably because I work harder at it in the winter, not because it isn't just as easy to sell in the summer. I too like to play during the nice months.

I think it can affect your attitude....I personally hate appointments on really bad rainy days when I can't find any convenient parking locations....I don't like it but I do it...Also weather can affect different industries, I work with a lot of teachers I love snow days even though it may cancel my appointments for the day it allows me to reach many more people on the phone during the day then I might otherwise be able to.

I'm not in the industry, but from the client-perspective, I tend to stay indoors when it is cold or rainy, or the weather is off in some other way (like Santa Ana winds maybe). That puts me in a conserving mindset, where I don't really want to think about new investments...but at the same time, if someone catches me at the right moment (through a website or *rarely* a phone call), I will have more time to consider it because I will be less busy.
