If I buy a domain name 5 to 10 years old do I just comrward it to johnwingateinsurance.com?

I would re-purpose the aged domain by making that my main lead generation website. If it is is 4-10 years old, already indexed in Google, then G gives more trust to an old domain, so it's far easier to rank than a domain that's less than 1-2 yrs old.
