Happy Holiday's everyone,

This year we got in the knack of writing a good bit of WC for the trucking industry, with that has come a good bit of cross sell opportunities of guys offering us the opportunity to quote their auto as well (dump trucks/box trucks ect)

What carriers should I be looking to? I am direct with Progressive and Lancer, I have NICO through RPS...who else should I look at to be competitive in that market? Progressive is not writing new ventures that strong right now, Lancer doesn't touch them either...feel like I am a bit handcuffed in what I can offer on that side. Any recommendations I appreciate it.

So I can't comment on the specifics of quoting trucking, but I can offer some insight on the big picture - which you may or may not already know.

If you're going to be writing trucking, then buckle your seatbelt. These are generally high maintenance, high turnover, super competitive accounts. There are always a small number of competitive markets, which can and does change. It's going to be difficult to do well in this market, unless you are doing a fair volume of them. On the plus side, the premium is often very substantial.

little tip - google trucking brokers in your area and see what carriers they have on their website? See what your competition is doing. Getting direct appointments for auto liability is going to be hard... just a fair warning.

Regarding the workers comp if your not using Clear Spring or Pretorian Insurance Company reach out to me. 80% of my book is trucking work comp I kill most risks on wheels as far as the comp goes.
all states, new ventures ok, 10k min prem, long & short haul, no xmod restrictions etc...

thank you, yes have clear spring and a few other carriers here on the east coast that write it well, ICW ect. I don't have Pretorian direct but through a broker.

Good idea on the brokers in the area, most don't post the carriers on their site but will keep hunting. Was almost wondering a co-brokering but I know that can get messy at times

It sounds like you already have a client base built up for WC, so offering truck policies could really serve those same clients. AIG is a major brand that sometimes sells truck policies under smaller brand names, but it prefers heavyweight fleets of five trucks or more. A local or specialized company like Owner-Operator Direct might shine for those who own their own trucks too. A few more smaller names you could look into: Freeway and Colonial Trucking.
