Ok, I know we have discussed this before and cannot find the thread, but I know 3 agents who have told me that they have gotten subsidy's for family member's when the breadwinner of household has affordable coverage offered at work. They said they called the marketplace and it was ok. I know YA and Ann both have explained this and need to understand this again. I thought they could not.

If they have access to group coverage, they are not eligible for tax credits. Just google "family glitch". Relying on HC.gov reps is a recipe for disaster. I believe if they answer the questions truthfully on HC.gov that they do have access to group coverage, they would be denied APTC. Will they get caught if they lied? Probably not in the first year, as the systems for employers to report group availability is not yet in place.

Thank you and I thought it had not changed, but I do not read everything that comes out it seems daily.

We actually got in a heated argument about this the other day with me walking away saying loose you fing license but I'm not doing it.

I will point out that if they are under 50 ee and it does not mec stds they qualify... some of the old pre 2014 group plans have upwards of 15K opkt for a family and that exceeds 12700 in the ACA, they qualify for a subsidy and I have seen the document that states it when you do answer the question truthfully the next question is does it meet mec.

Good catch, TaterPeeler. Both you and Yagents are correct - if it is EITHER unaffordable or inadequate, it doesn't count. And Bluediamond, how right you are that it is not worth losing a license over!

Thanks everyone, sometimes just can't keep this straight and when you have a boss you asked questions of and when he tells you completely different answer's every other day you seem to question what you learned in the beginning. I should not listen to him because I knew this in the beginning.

To make sure I read this right. If the family opkt is greater than 15k under group plan they can get subsidy?
