Experiences with Sentry Insurance

Hi all,

After spending the past couple of weeks scouring the forum and taking in all of the helpful information here, I was hoping for a little advice. I've been researching an opening with Sentry Insurance for a Consumer Products Specialist and was looking for opinions on the company. Their total package appears fairly enticing (car, salary, training), but I can't seem to find much info from anyone who has actually sold insurance for them.

First as someone looking to get into the industry (Graduated with my Finance degree about a year and half ago and have been working in pension and retirement since), is this a company that could benefit someone new to the insurance industry?

Second, any idea on the required quotas for their sales producers? Especially in your first couple of years.

Finally, what was your overall experience with Sentry like?

The few employee reviews I have seen have been slightly negative, but appear to come from people who just don't have the drive to be able to work from home and motivate themselves. Working with a company handling the outsourcing of pension benefits I'm no stranger to working long hours (50-60 hours a week dealing with retirees who have never given thought to their pension can definitely be challenging) and do a decent amount of my work from home already, so drive is not an issue. Thanks in advance for any info!

I worked for Sentry for three years. I was in another division, so I don't know what their personal lines production requirements are, but they were realistic in the area in which I worked. They have (had) great benefits (car/bonus/pension/401k) and their home office is a great place to visit, especially the golf course. I'm happier as an independent agent though!

Hmmmmmm,

funny how the only comments are from newbies with a couple posts, saying Sentry is good...

I have to say I laughed at the comment, "their website is good: so they must be a good company. LOL, Sorry, cant help myself there.

That kind of seems like the majority of answers I've seen other places on the internet. Either very new agents who have no real comparison or spam. Any other companies that others would recommend looking in to? I know the majority of posters here favor going the Independent route, but I'm leaning toward getting the training and gaining experience with a company before going out on my own.

Sentry is a good place to start. they give you a car, salary, health benefits. If you can get on with them, go for it.. They are not like Farmers.
