Do people still fall for this junk?

I just recieved an e-mail from a brokerage that's recruiting agents using the marketer on the cover of a fake magazine and a fake magazine article pitching his speal.

How much less credible can you get?

Certain clients will fall for this type of thing or the I wrote a book....But I would think that most astute clients wether they fall for this doesn't matter because there still going to be looking at you and what you bring to the table besides a magazine cover...

I would never use this type of fake hype...Now I did run into a client once that told me they would never switch advisors because of how honest he was and that even his peers recognised it and pulled out one of those fake magazines...I thanked him for his time and emailed him a link to page showing the exact same cover but with a sampe agent on it as well as the cost....This client didn't return my phone calls and I didn't expect he would after I burst his bubble but I wonder if he changed reps.

That kind of stuff just screams "Don't believe a word I say!"

Third party endorsements are like gold, and this is just one way that can work. Ghost written books, articles, newsletters are nothing new. It has been around for some time.

Some of them, like putting your picture on the cover of a "fake" magazine, are a bit over the top.

Wow! They upped their game.

Now they are mailing the hard copy of the fake magazine cover out directly.

Anybody ever heard of "Today's Financial Times" and I'm not talking about the legit British newspaper.

Apparently you can pay them some money and they will write up a fake article and put your picture on the cover.

Probably good if you want to have fake credibility.

The magazine thing is not a whole lot different than the celebrity who hires someone to ghost write a book for them or about them and it then it is published as by Mr. Bigg with or without recognition of the professional writer.

I guess the big difference is the celebrity is famous and the insurance agent is not. Maybe the celebrity has a story to tell but isn't a writer or doesn't have the time. All the agent is trying to do is sell something. Anyway I still think it is tacky or bad for the profession.
