Nursing home surprise: Advantage plans may shorten stays to less time than Medicare covers

Well IT IS YOUR PROBLEM when the nursing homes take advantage of someone on Original Medicare and a Med Sup by running them through rehab like cattle every day. I have seen it myself when my Mother was in the alzheimer's unit. They came daily and wheeled those people out in their wheelchair while their sleeping and 45 minutes later here they come back still with their blanket on and sound asleep. This is part of the reason we see such big increases on Med Sups, no accountability and it's a free for all with Original Medicare. This is a major part of why everyone at SNF and Nursing homes dis Medicare Advantage plans, they don't like being held accountable for anything they do. $$$$$$$$

So, what did you end up doing about that situation?

Continued selling MA plans so they can't take advantage of the system and let every SNF worker that bitches about MA plans know their abuse of the system is why people can't afford Med Sups. Had lady spouting off about it at my seminars that worked at a SNF and I had enough so told her that exact thing in front of 75 clients. She didn't say another word.

Here's the flip side:

82 year old woman, no medical conditions, no prescriptions. Lives alone. Broke her ankle. After 10 days, the MAPD kicked her out. She couldn't transfer and was non weight bearing.

There's got to be some middle ground, but I haven't seen it.

I was hoping you would report them to CMS or whoever might be able to investigate it.

Pretty sure CMS is aware that every nursing home/skilled nursing facility does this. Must not have the manpower to do anything about it. Easier to pay MA plans a bunch of money to police it for them i guess.
